BETONG: The state government has proposed 18 development projects worth RM1.61 billion specifically for the Betong Division.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) PBB vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the projects were proposed under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and it was a matter that was emphasised for development in the area.
“Besides that, in relation to basic amenities such as water supply, the current water supply coverage recorded a total of 82.9 percent throughout Sarawak,” he said.
He said this while presenting his paper on ‘Strategic Partnership: Utility Project’ during the PBB Betong Zone special mini convention held at Dewan Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan, here on Saturday (Sept 26).
Rundi, who is also Utilities Minister, said for the convenience of the residents, the Sarawak government has spent RM25 million to provide water supply subsidy in the state.
“The allocation is under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid (BKSS) package from April to September of this year,” he said.
He added it involved discounts of 25 percent on water bills for domestic consumption, domestic and commercial (15 percent), commercial (15 percent), and industrial (10 percent).
“So far, the subsidy has benefited about 600,000 households in Sarawak,” he said.
