KUCHING: A prolonged delay in the completion of a private housing project has left 29 buyers waiting for their homes.

According to the press statement by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), the private housing project, Taman Greenwoods, has been delayed for over eight years beyond its original 2016 target and was officially classified as a “sick project” in 2021.

“MPHLG revealed that Taman Greenwoods is developed by Ganda Hasrat Holdings Sdn Bhd and is located at Lot 740, Block 5, Matang Land District. The project comprises 24 single-storey semi-detached units and 51 single-storey terrace units,” it said.

Hence, an engagement session was held by MPHLG with the developer and the house purchasers, chaired by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (Public Health and Housing), Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee on Nov 11.

“During the session, MPHLG presented and explained the current progress of the housing development project, noting that the developer had received the Road Completion Certificate issued by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

“MPP had also informed the purchasers present of the requirements that must be adhered by the developer to obtain the Occupation Permit (OP).

“Purchasers had expressed their concerns pertaining to the development and emphasised their high hope that the developer would comply with all necessary requirements in order to expedite the issuance of OP and enable them to move into their long-awaited houses,” it said.

It added that MPHLG assured all affected house purchasers that the government remains committed in the efforts to resolve the issues surrounding Taman Greenwoods and will continue to work collaboratively with all parties involved to achieve a positive outcome.

Present at the session were Housing deputy controller Konsil Genam, MPP chairman Tan Kai, the acting MPP secretary and other officers.

During the engagement session, MPP also presented the Road Completion Certificate to the said developer.

Meanwhile, Tiang emphasised that government agencies would support any viable solutions proposed by the developer to expedite the completion of the project, despite the hurdles faced during the development.
