BINTULU: The Jepak Area Citizens’ Welfare Association has expressed hope that all pledges made during the run-up to the just concluded Jepak by-election will be fulfilled.
In stating this its president pointed to the GPS manifesto promises such as providing affordable housing, increasing resettlement schemes, village expansion as well as repair and assistance in the construction of long houses.
“A Malay proverb says ‘A buffalo is held by its nose, a man is held by his word’ which means that promises should be kept and fulfilled,” he said.
He also called on newly elected assemblyman Iskandar Turkee to carry the trust well, listen to the voices, hopes and dreams of the people in the area for the sake of continued development in addition to continuing the legacy of the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip’s leadership and development efforts.
He said the Iskandar’s victory gave a clear message that the people in the area accepted the policies planned and implemented by the Sarawak government.
Iskandar won with a majority of 8,784 votes after obtaining 9,638 votes defeating Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate Stevenson Joseph Sumbang who obtained 854 votes and Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspiration) candidate Chieng Lea Phing who only managed 431 votes.
