SIMUNJAN: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) has called upon the people, particularly in Batang Sadong constituency, to utilise social media sites to promote tourist spots in the area.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri suggested youth take the initiative by using social media to promote the spots and boost the local economy.

“We want to encourage the people, especially the youth in Simunjan, to take pictures or videos of the tourist attractions.

“When these videos or photos are posted on the social media, they can attract local and tourists from outside to visit Simunjan,” she said during the Community Development Programme at Dewan Mesra Simunjan today.

Nancy, who is also the Batang Sadong MP, added her ministry would help to further promote and develop local tourist attractions.

She also urged the people of Sadong Jaya to submit a proposal on the production of a short film to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).

“Finas board member Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail has informed that there is an allocation for those who want to produce a short video of one minute or two minutes’ duration,” she said.

At the event, Nancy presented prizes to the winners of the short video competition and village cleanliness competition organised by Simunjan District Council.

She also advised community leaders to invite villagers to work together more often in keeping the village areas clean.

“Do not just clean the villages only when there is a competition. But continue to have good health and hygiene everyday,” said Nancy.
