KUCHING: The Society of English Writers Northern Zone (Soswe) will promote this city through its book that was published last year.
It will hold a sharing session in collaboration with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in Kuching at 10am on March 30 (Saturday). It is a free session and open to public.
As Miri has been neglected touristically, Soswe hopes to promote it by sharing its views on the latest development in and around the city.
Also sharing in the session will be David Sanderson, the second son of the late Sgt C F Sanderson DCM (“Z” Special Unit) from Newcastle (Australia).
He will tell stories about his late father, Frederick Sanderson, retracing his trail in Borneo during the Japanese occupation in 1945.
Soswe is a Society of Sarawakians Writing in English. Its first pro-tem committee was formed on November 24, 1997 when it was led by Ms Abby Lau who was then a journalist with a local newspaper.
Among its objectives are: (1) to cultivate a general interest in the art of writing of any genre, (2) to encourage local writers to write through organising activities like writing contests, workshops, seminars, talks, etc., (3) to promote research activities with special emphasis on the social cultural aspects of Sarawak, and (4) to foster a closer relationship among local writers who are residing in Sarawak
The current executive committee comprises Florence Enau (president), Jennie Soh (secretary), Helena Henry (treasurer), and Jay She, Jamila Bibi, Loh Yunn Hua, and Faizul Mansoor (ordinary committee members).
