LUBOK ANTU: In the quest to instil a sense of patriotism and a deep love for their homeland, parents and teachers play pivotal roles, particularly for the younger generation – school students who are still in the process of understanding the true meaning and value of genuine independence.

SK Nanga Kesit headmaster Lasa Sigat stressed the importance of this effort to ensure that the spirit of the country’s independence can be cherished at all times.

“Thus, young people, particularly students, are not only the future’s heartbeat but also the cornerstone of the nation’s leadership. It’s crucial that this responsibility is clearly conveyed to them,” he stated while presiding over the closing of the Independence Month and Malaysia Day celebration at SK Nanga Kesit here.

He expressed concern that if the youth and students are not exposed to the spirit of patriotism, the future leadership of the nation could be vulnerable, and external influences might easily disrupt administrative affairs.

“Therefore, parents or guardians need to nurture a patriotic mindset in their children and not solely rely on teachers to shoulder this responsibility.”

Meanwhile, SK Nanga Kesit Parent-Teacher Association president Gagat Bungang called upon parents to consistently support the school in ensuring the success of all activities organised by the institution.

He commended the school for effectively conducting the event and hoped that it would reignite and strengthen the love for the country among the students.

The one-day programme featured a competition where students coloured the logo of the independence celebration and the Malaysian flag.

It also included an independence parade, a patriotic song singing competition, an independence quiz, a history corner exhibition, a patriotic video screening, a national costume queen competition, a patriotic princess competition, drawing independence posters, patriotic classroom decoration, and a patriotic Queen Kebaya competition for parents.
