KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) is steadfast in its Road Safety Awareness Campaign. It is dedicated to fostering safer road practices, particularly among commuters along the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project route.

The most recent initiative took place along the Red Line route at Jalan Lapangan Terbang, a location already buzzing with construction activities.

This endeavour was a collaborative effort with the Red Line’s contractor, SJCJV—a partnership between Sri Datai Construction (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, JT JV Builders Sdn Bhd, and CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd.

The Royal Malaysian Police, Road Transport Department, Public Works Department (PWD) Kuching, Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak, and the Federal Secretary’s office in Sarawak also lent their support.

The primary objective of the campaign is to heighten public consciousness regarding road safety amidst the KUTS project construction, with a specific emphasis on fostering secure practices among drivers, pedestrians, and construction personnel engaged in the undertaking.

“Our foremost concern is to safeguard the well-being of all road users, particularly as construction advances.

“We all bear a responsibility in upholding road safety, and strict adherence to traffic regulations, signage, and directives, especially in the vicinity of construction zones, is crucial,” stated Ts Mazli Mustaffa, the Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Metro.

Furthermore, as part of the campaign, commuters were furnished with goodie bags containing safety brochures and reflective vests, reinforcing the critical importance of adhering to road safety protocols to avert any unforeseen mishaps.
