BINTULU: The organising of the Food Festival is seen as the best platform to promote Sarawak’s culinary products, especially for the local community, which at the same time contributes to economic growth directly for the local traders and hawkers.
Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said now was the time for the people to introduce the products of the local community such as te’ong, tebas, linut besides handicrafts, traditional clothes, food products, agricultural products and so forth.
Speaking when declaring open the Food Festival organised by the Association of Sarawak Merchants and Hawkers Assyakirin Unit at the Centre Court NAIM Paragon Street Mall Bintulu, today, he was proud of the association’s steps in turning every challenge into an opportunity to continue boosting the image of Bintulu in the tourism and culture industry, especially in promoting local food.
Tiong was represented by his special officer, Steven Kong Kai Seng at the event.
“I am made to understand that the organising of this Food Festival is part of the programme held in conjunction with the Sarawak-Melaka Entrepreneurship Festival 2023.
“As such, I am confident and believe that the holding of this festival can be a medium in bringing closer the family relationship between the two states (Sarawak-Melaka), thus becoming the best platform to nurture the spirit of unity among the multi-racial communities and cultural backgrounds in this country, in general,” he added.
Chairman of the Sarawak-Melaka Children’s Association Datuk Wan Zain Syed Mohdzar, chairman of the Sarawak Traders and Hawkers Association Assyakirin Unit Zulkipli Dahlan, chairman of the Sarawak Traders and Hawkers Association Bintulu Region Simba Entili and senior manager of Real Estate and Investment Management (Bintulu) NAIM Group Daniel Eng were among those present.
