KUCHING: The state Land and Survey Department (JTS) hopes to promote land surveying as a career for future generations.

This was made known during the department’s third State Civil Service Innovation Week at Imperial Hotel here on Sunday (Oct 11).

The programme had input such as ‘Surveyor Profession Lecture: Innovation and Transformation’ and Sarawak Civil Service Innovation Convention Award 2020 (SCSICA) in Cake Creativity and Decoration competition.

Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit, who represented State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, officiated at the opening of the programme.

JTS director Abdullah Julaihi said surveying as a career has a bright future with continuous innovation, not only in the industry but also within the department itself.

“The department collaborated with Politeknik Kuching in Diploma in Geomatics to expose the students to land surveying.

“Various measurement methods or innovations and new technologies are introduced to simplify measurements to strengthen the accuracy of measurements.

“Therefore, the department invites students from Politeknik Kuching to hear from professional surveyors themselves,” he said in his speech during the event.

Abdullah also thanked Associate Professor Dr Tajul Arffin Musa of the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), who was invited to promote the study of surveying at university level.

“Surveying as a career is less known compared to other technical professions such as engineering and architecture although there are a lot of job opportunities in line with the development of various sectors such as property, infrastructure and other physical development in the state,” he said.
