KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching branch continues its efforts to promote the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo to the public at Tan Pan Corner, Jalan Padungan on Saturday.
According to its chairperson Datuk Lily Yong, today’s programme was the fifth in its series of creating public awareness on the GPS logo, while at the same time presenting the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) to the eligible recipients.
“There are many programmes on the launching of the GPS logo since last year in the rural areas, but not so much in urban areas.
“Therefore, we feel that it is essential and very important to continuously educate, tell and alertg our people on the ground about this logo,” she told reporters at the event.
Yong, who is also the SUPP vice-president said the team had already carried out the programme at Carpenter Street, Sekama and Padungan areas.
“For instance, there are many middle aged and elderly living in Padungan area, so we choose the location where it is easier to distribute the KGC to them instead of asking them to go to our office and collect from us,” she said.
She added SUPP Kuching branch has fixed every Saturday to set up a service counter within the Padungan constituency for the KGC collection or registration.
“Next Saturday, we will set up our counter at the KMC Flat, opposite the Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre. Even those who are not from Padungan area can visit if they have any enquiries,” she said.
Meanwhile, SUPP Kuching branch deputy chairman, Bong Lian Huan encourage more merchants to be part of the KGC as strategic partners in order to offer more benefits to the elderly in Sarawak.
“According to the KGC website, there are one hundred merchants registered as strategic partners. In Kuching alone, there are 32 merchants currently. We would like to call on more merchants to join this programme” he said.
Bong, who is a potential candidate for Padungan, disclosed that nearly 2,000 KGC had been distributed to eligible recipients in Padungan area.
