KUCHING: The Sarawak government through the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) is urging residents and industries involved in tire sales to cooperate in the proper disposal of used tires.

NREB environmental quality controller Jack Liam stated that tire disposal can be done through Zha Environmental Sdn Bhd, an agency appointed since 2012 to assist in the collection and recycling of used tires.

He highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing indiscriminate disposal, which leads to environmental pollution.

“We urge the people of Sarawak, especially industries involved in tire sales and disposal, to cooperate by using the company appointed by the state government for used tire disposal,” he said.

He said this at a press conference with NREB, the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and Zha Environmental Sdn Bhd here on Wednesday.

He noted that approximately 93,000 used tires have been collected from 2013 to 2023.

Additionally, he warned that penalties will be imposed for improper tire disposal.
