MIRI: Property numbers here are on the rise due to the city’s swift development.

Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said that, the number of properties was increasing by two to three per cent annually.

“Since we were elevated to City status in 2005, we have seen a significant increase in properties here by 90.4 per cent,” he said during officiating ceremony of the Miri SHEDA Branch Home & Property Roadshow at Bintang Megamall here recently.

For the record, Miri now has 73,454 properties of which 62,971 are residential, 7,748 are Commercial properties, and 2,735 are Industrial properties.

With that, he said that in view of the development of high-rise buildings in Sarawak, the state government developed the Subsidiary Titles (STRATA) Ordinance 2019 and the STRATA Management Ordinance 2019, which came into force on March 1, 2022.

“Under this Ordinance, the developer and purchasers are required to form a Joint Management Body (JMB).

“I would like to urge all developers and purchasers to comply with the STRATA Management Ordinance 2019 to ensure a better strata community living for all,” he added.
