Proposed airfields in Kapit, Betong still in design stages

KUCHING: The proposed Bukit Mabong Airfield in Kapit and Bukit Sadok Airfield in Betong are still in design stages.

The design for Bukit Mabong Airfield is 30 percent complete while Bukit Sadok is 40 percent complete, disclosed a statement issued by the corporate communication branch of the state Public Works Department (PWD) in Wisma Saberkas here yesterday.

According to the statement, the construction for Bukit Mabong Airfield project in Kapit is expected to be out for tender the earliest by end of this year while the Bukit Sadok Airfield in Betong by end of September.

Once the tender is out, construction work on the Bukit Mabong Airfield is expected to commence by the first quarter of 2020 while Bukit Sadok Airfield by November this year.

The statement was issued in response to comments by members of the public, posted on social media on last Monday, questioning the status of the two projects.
