KUCHING: A proposed establishment of a permanent secretariat to monitor the implementation of resolutions presented at the 2024 Bumiputera Economic Congress must include members from all regions of Malaysia.
Senator Abun Sui Anyit said that the members in the secretariat should include those in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
“We hope that this permanent secretariat would focus on comprehensive development, including in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the Orang Asli areas and marginalised communities.
“Therefore, membership in this permanent secretariat should include representatives from all ethnicities, including non-Muslim Bumiputeras and those who truly understand the issues of the represented areas, especially from the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Abun further said with the establishment of the permanent secretariat, it is hoped that decisions made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his speech on March 2 would be implemented for the benefit of Bumiputeras throughout Malaysia.
Earlier during the closing ceremony of congress at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that a permanent secretariat would be established immediately for the purpose of monitoring the implementation of resolutions presented at the 2024 Bumiputera Economic Congress.
He was reported as saying that the secretariat would be placed under the Bumiputera Economic Council (MEB), chaired by the Prime Minister.
Ahmad Zahid said that he, as the chairman of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), would be responsible for overseeing and executing what has been approved by the MEB.
