KUALA LUMPUR: Have you ever wondered how far will your car go on a full tank? National car-maker Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) has proven its car to be fuel efficient, with journeys of up to 640 km on a full tank during the recently concluded Proton 1-Tank Adventure’s northern leg challenge.

Spanning four states, the twoday journey began on Jul 31 where 36 participants drove from Seberang Jaya to Kuala Perlis, Alor Setar and Ipoh before ending back at Seberang Jaya. The challenge is aimed at testing three Proton models – Proton Saga 1.3 with continuously variable transmission (CVT), Proton Iriz 1.3 CVT and Proton Persona 1.6 CVT.

Based on the results, the average petrol usage for participants driving the Pesona is 18.42 km per litre (km/l) with Iriz at 18.12 km/l and Saga at 19.46 km/l. Ku Mohd Azri Ku Azizan, 28, who drove the Pesona, does not believe that the national car is fuelinefficient. “I have been driving a Proton for the past two years and the fuel efficiency, especially for Iriz and Pesona, are very good. I commute roughly 100 km for work, on only RM20 of petrol a day. ”

During the challenge, I drive less than 80 km an hour and without air-conditioning for 90 per cent of the time, and it is interesting to discover the distance that can be covered on a single tank,” he said. Mohamad Izaaz Naiim Safri, 25, who drove the Saga, said that he bought the model three years ago as his first car due to its competitive price tag.

“It makes a very affordable first car, and it is also economical in terms of performance,” he said. Iriz driver, Muhammad Hamizi Merican, 28, said car care and maintenance, as well as driving style, can help save fuel.

“For me, the ability to save on fuel is not just dependent on the car model. I always go on relaxing long-distance drive, and I feel that Proton Iriz is fuel savvy and definitely worth it,” he said. The Proton 1-Tank Adventure also took place in the Klang Valley (Jul 17-18), Kuala Terengganu (Jul 21-22), Inanam, Sabah (Jul 24-25) and Pasir Gudang (28-29 Julai). The final challenge, from Johor to Penang, will start on Aug 11 dan 12. –Bernama
