KOTA SAMARAHAN: On Sunday (Feb 20) is National Student Volunteer Day, a day to acknowledge students in volunteering programmes as well as their contributions to society.

Many university students in the state join Kor Sukarelawan Polis Siswa (SUKSIS) or the “Student’s Police Volunteer Reserve Corps” Or “Police Undergraduate Volunteers Force”.

New Sarawak Tribune met some of the volunteer police inspectors after the presentation of certificates of appointment as police volunteer inspectors at DeTAR PUTRA, UNIMAS and found that they were proud to have volunteered and become part of the police force.

I am thankful to have completed my training throughout my university years and to have won the award for Best Overall Trainee in SUKSIS. It has been my dream to be in the police force and joining the volunteers force was the best decision I have ever made. Volunteering has helped me to improve and discipline myself and made me into who am today.

Three years of training in the SUKSIS programme has made me who I am today. Volunteering in the police force is an honour and a privilege. Throughout my training, I have learnt many things that are useful to me. I have disciplined myself, boosted my confidence and gained new skills. I hope after this, I will go on to serve in the police force.
