KUCHING: The government is urged to ensure that all Sarawakians are provided free Covid-19 vaccine once the vaccines are successfully developed and made available.
Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said the state government must be fully committed and ensure that the vaccine will be given free of charge to the people.
“All the costs for Covid-19 vaccination have to be shouldered by the government so that no one will face an economic barrier to receiving one,” she said on Saturday (Nov 14).
She said given that Covid-19 has been a public health crisis and had taken more than 300 lives in Malaysia so far, it was thus crucial for the government to secure sufficient supplies of safe and effective vaccines once they were available.
“This is to enable mass vaccination can be given to all citizens to fight the Covid-19 pandemic at the earliest available time,” she stressed.
She noted thus far the countries that have decided to offer the free vaccination included Australia, India, Japan and United States of America (USA).
“The government cannot escape from its responsibility to protect the lives of the people and keep them safe from Covid-19 infection.
“Not only that the government has to ensure the vaccines procured are safe and effective for use but also the doses are sufficient to distribute to all citizens,” she said.
