SIBU: Any contest for the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) presidency should be viewed positively at the upcoming Triennial Delegates Conference, said party treasurer Matthew Igoh Lingkong.
He said a contest will further nurture the practice of democracy in the party.
“It is up to the grassroots members to elect a qualified leader to lead the party,” he added.
Mathew stressed that fears of a fallout among party members is incongruous because all parties are registered with the Registrar of Societies.
“It stipulates that a political party must conduct elections if there are candidates interested in holding a post,” he said.
He added that the party election would be livelier should the contest draw candidates from different political backgrounds.
“Whatever the outcome, it will be in the best interest of all grassroots supporters.”
