SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Democratic Progressive Party (PDP) are following up on their ‘engagement’ in preparation to get ‘married’ soon.
In pointing this out, PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said the party had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with PDP on July 13 last year which means the two parties have been ‘engaged’.
“The PDP has 100,000 members and PSB has more than 85,000 members. Together they are a powerful force and will surely achieve great things under the leadership of PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing,”he said at the PSB Bawang Assan Branch’s new year celebration dinner here on Saturday (Feb 3).
Wong, who is Bawang Assan assemblyman, said looking back, coups had occurred in the federation with prime ministers frequently changed, leading to political instability.
Now, he said, despite reports from time to time that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) is trying to launch a coup to regain power, with the full support of Sarawak and Sabah, one of the core partners of the Unity Government, the country had safely passed through 2023 with political stability.
“PSB deeply understands the power of unity, especially as we are facing many advocates of racial and religious extremism,” he said, adding, “we need to unite as one to maintain political stability.”
Therefore, we have decided to unite under the umbrella of a political alliance, he said.
During the event, various entertainment programmes were held including a rendition of Chinese New Year songs and lucky draws.
Among those present were chairman of PDP Bawang Assan Datuk Teo Boon Siew, PDP Bawang Assan youth chief Joshua Ting, PDP Nangka chairman Teo Nging Poh and other PDP members.
