BINTULU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) have pledged to campaign for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Iskander Turkee in the Jepak by-election to secure a resounding victory for the state ruling coalition.

The party’s president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said PSB’s presence at the Bintulu Civic Centre’s nomination centre today (Oct 21) was a demonstration of their sincerity and support for the GPS candidate.

“We are here with GPS, particularly Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), pledging our full support to Iskander Turkee,” he said.

“We recognise that at this crucial stage of our state development, political unity and stability are the two important elements that cannot be faulted and should be the targets to aim for,” he said in a statement today.

Wong said in politics, finding common ground and focusing on similarities, rather than differences, was crucial for establishing connections and cooperation.

“If we are 80% similar and 20% different, why should we allow small differences to rule our relationship with others?

“In terms of policies and in terms of what we hope to do and what to achieve for the people of Sarawak, we PSB are 80 per cent or more similar to PDP/GPS. Thus, we will not allow small differences to divide us. We will not try to make political gains out of our differences,” he explained.

Wong said PSB had also signed a unity memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) to enable two parties to closely work together with a plan for merger.

Having made that historic and irrevocable choice, he said, PSB is ready to give full support and to rally strongly behind GPS Government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg while also giving full support to the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In addition, he said, Sarawak is now undergoing significant transformation under a dedicated and forceful leader, Abang Johari; who has been recognised for his political prowess and far-sighted vision to establish a new hallmark of dynamic government to bring about a high income society and a developed state for Sarawak by 2030.
