MUKAH:  Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will soon open a branch in Tellian here, in a move to spread its wings to this region.

With its presence here sooner or later, the political party, which is not affiliated to either Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) or Pakatan Harapan (PH), will provide an alternative to voters in the coming state election.

Akit Sebli, who acted as a sponsor in introducing and promoting PSB here, claimed that some 350 locals comprising people of various races and religion have registered to join the party.

He said the number has exceeded the minimum of 250 members to qualify for branch status.

The former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mukah branch vice chairman said necessary preparations are already in progress to form the branch here.

“When it is ready, we will invite party president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh to launch the branch,” he told New Sarawak Tribune at a Christmas gathering in Kampung Petanak Daya here on Saturday.

He said the move to set up a branch here was initiated by the party’s headquarters in Kuching as its preparation for the next state election (which must be held before Sept 7, 2021).

Akit, who is a former permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, said he was ready to be selected as a candidate to represent PSB in Tellian constituency in the state election.

“I had enough experiences in that kind of situation before and I will accept with open heart any decision made by PSB headquarters as far as selection for candidate is concerned,” said the pensioner.
