KUCHING: Rumours suggesting that Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has expressed interest in contesting the Jepak state by-election are being regarded as personal opinions by some quarters.
This viewpoint came from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice president, Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom.
He went on to say that the party led by Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh is also rumoured to be considering a merger with the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“While no final decision has been reached, it is likely to happen. I believe they may be thinking of a better way to come together rather than competing against Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said after attending the MLNG Bestari Outreach Programme held at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Roban yesterday.
Rundi, who is also the Kemena assemblyman, noted that GPS and PBB are prepared for the by-election.
“The announcement of the candidate has yet to be made. Jepak constituency is undoubtedly a PBB stronghold, and we are confident that our candidate will be from PBB,” he added.
Dr Rundi also hoped that there would not be any opponents but in a democracy, one cannot prevent anyone from contesting.
“From the perspective of GPS and the PBB, there are no issues,” he said.
