DEBAK: Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam has approved donation worth RM20,000 to SMK Saribas’ Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to host several proposed activities including the state-level carnival this year which will be held here.
“I like the ideas that the PTA has put forward and I hope the coming carnival will also focus on drug abuse because the issue cannot be resolved in total…at least through PTA, we are able to raise awareness in the community especially among parents,” he stated when officiating the SMK Saribas’s 2019 general meeting of PTA at the school here on Sunday.
Razi also mentioned that the management pattern of PTA needs to change to maximise its contribution for the development of the school and the students.
He further added that the role of PTA is important but due to the passage of time, the PTA is demanded to meet current requirements.
“The old way is no longer relevant hence; the PTA committees should act proactively and efficiently in helping the school. Think of something more impactful for the development of the children’s education and most importantly, the commitment and involvement of all PTA committees,” he commented.
At the same time, Razi urged parents to monitor and ensure the children’s attendance to the school.
“To me, the parents should take school absenteeism as a serious issue. I was informed that the percentage of school attendance in the first three months this year did not achieve the Key Performance Index (KPI) that has been set by Betong District Education Officer which is around 94.6 per cent in January, 92.4 per cent in February and 91.9 per cent in March,” he declared.
“I seek parents’ cooperation to ensure their children’s attendance to school. I also advised the children to not escape elsewhere. Be confident that the school is the best institution that can produce excellent and successful human capital,” he explained.
Also present were the school’s Senior Assistant Administration Andrew Anthony Taboh and PTA chairman Abang Hakim Abang Hamzah as well as about 200 parents.
