KUCHING: The Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office has announced an additional public holiday for the state in conjunction with polling day for the coming 14th General Election in a press statement issued yesterday.
“Following the announcement by the Election Commission (EC) that polling day for the 14th General Election falls on Wednesday, May 9, the state government has decided that an additional public holiday be declared throughout Sarawak on that day to enable the rakyat to exercise their democratic rights to vote,” it said.
“The declaration is made pursuant to Section 5 of the Public Holidays Ordinance [Cap. 8 (1958)],” it added.
