MIRI: Mayor Adam Yii’s suggestion to have online registration for dog licenses has received lots of praises from the public.
To one of Miri City Council (MCC) councillors, Karambir Singh, the proposal is very practical.
“I fully support it,” he said, adding that the simplification of the various application forms will cut the red tape,” he said.
Karambir said, for example, a suggestion by the mayor to exclude the requirement of submitting dog pictures is reasonable.
“The current process most likely takes longer than getting our identity card,” he said.
After filling up the online form, applicants only need to collect their dog tags and permits after making the required payments.
“It will also cut down on the number of people queuing up at the council’s office,” continued Karambir.
Karambir said that he is giving his full support to simplify the whole process without compromising on the efforts to eradicate rabies in Sarawak.
A dog owner, Margaret Lim, described the suggestion as a time saver and more practical.
“For those (dog owners) working, online registration is better as time can be saved, and no more queuing,” she said.
Margaret who has three puppies hoped that the mayor’s suggestion would materialize soon.
Another dog owner, 30-year-old Jenny Laeng welcomed the proposal and hoped it could be realized as it would not only benefit dog owners but also the council can use the system to monitor the number of registered dogs in the city,” she said.
She believes that the registration requirement would indirectly create some sense of responsibility among dog owners.
“Especially considering the current rabies outbreak, the suggested measure could help the council track down dogs to vaccinate,” she said.
Jenny is the proud owner of four dogs.
