KUCHING: Despite the easing of the movement control order (MCO), people are still reluctant to dine at restaurants and coffee shops in Petra Jaya here.

New Sarawak Tribune noticed at a few coffee shops and cafes at Matang Jaya that tables and chairs were spaced widely and floors were marked with tapes to keep the patrons apart from each other.

Siti Anizah, a worker at Miu Miu Café, Matang Jaya said the business just resumed yesterday.

She said that a few people turned up to eat since morning.

“We already placed the tables one metre apart. We also check customers’ body temperatures before they are allowed to dine in,” she told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

She also said dine-in customers would be limited to two people per table.
Ramlah, the owner of one of the stalls in the cafe also said that dine-in customers were fewer than those who made takeaway orders.

“People prefer takeaways instead of dining in. To me, takeaways are better than dining in because people are less likely to be exposed to infection,” she said.

A worker of Singapore Chicken Rice restaurant at Matang Jaya said the premises decided against allowing customers to dine in.

“For now, we only accept takeaways,” she said.
