SIBU: The public are advised not to conduct a ‘miring’ (offering) ceremony at Taman Jubli Bukit Aup here from Jan 15 to 18.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh said that this is to make way for the third Sarawak Games (SUKSAR).

“Taman Jubli Bukit Aup, Sibu, has been selected as the venue for the Cross Country Olympic (XCO) and Downhill (MTB) cycling events for both men and women.

“Therefore, to facilitate sports activities, the public are advised not to conduct any “miring” activities during this period. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted. Thank you,” he said in a statement today.

SUKSAR will feature four contingents: North Zone (Limbang, Miri, Bintulu), Central Zone (Sibu, Mukah, Kapit), West Zone (Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman), and Southern Zone (Serian, Samarahan, Kuching).

It will include 13 sports items, including weightlifting, cycling, volleyball, basketball, futsal, hockey, judo, karate, silat, sepak takraw, boxing, taekwondo, and wushu.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will officiate at the opening ceremony on Jan 15, while Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the closing ceremony on Jan 18.
