KUCHING: Members of the public agree with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg that positions of leadership in Sarawak should be given to those with merit.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed this recently when officiating at the recent International Women’s Day celebration at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Kuching.
He said leadership roles would be given based on merit so that Sarawak could achieve its ambition of digital economy.
He pointed out in this new era, only those who had the latest knowledge and skills would be able to change the state’s future either in the non-government organisations (NGOs) or government-linked companies (GLCs).
The following are public comments on the matter.
Hazlin Hamzah (Postgraduate student)
In this modern era, our leaders must be well-versed in digital technologies as this will influence their way of thinking and leadership styles. It is important for youth to equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills so that they are capable of shouldering great responsibilities ahead.
Mohammad Aidid Aidi (Service level manager executive)
Digital economy requires the new generation to be equipped with particular knowledge and expertise in order to succeed. Without the relevant qualifications or skills, leaders will not be able to make precise decisions and suitable policies in line with the current modern world
Nia Natasha (Secretary)
This should have been implemented earlier so that people with abilities and credentials can transform the state. Leaders with advanced qualifications and skills in digital technology will benefit Sarawak better. I wish to see strong and visionary leaders who will make the state harmonious and progressive in years to come.
Mohammad Ramzuan Bolhassan (Student)
Giving leadership positions based on merit is good for the young generation with potentials that are waiting to be tapped. Sarawak must have qualified and skilful leaders that will bring Sarawak to a greater height. With the new system implemented by our Chief Minister, the leadership positions in Sarawak will be filled by qualified candidates with fresh ideas and thoughts.
Stheven Francis (Student)
I agree with our Chief Minister’s idea because future leaders should be able to bring new changes to Sarawak and drive it to a greater height. We need leaders who are experienced, knowledgeable as well as know-how to provide a good range of perspectives and contemporary ideas.
Zafirah Othman (Researcher)
I concur with the Chief Minister’s idea because future leaders who are competent will be able to seize opportunities for the state’s advantages. The world is constantly evolving so leaders who have good strategic thinking skills and the ability to share clear messages to achieve success will benefit the people and state.
