KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) has proposed that Active Case Detection (ACD) operations be widely publicised in order to raise public awareness of their benefits.
STU president Adam Prakash Abdullah said he was saddened and dismayed by the low turnouts at ACD operations in Sibu recently.
He pointed out that the operations were part of the government’s efforts and initiatives to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“I am also saddened by the community’s cold response. The government is working hard to combat the pandemic so that our lives will return to normal and for their own good, the public should embrace this initiative.”
Adam Prakash said that the public should not be worried about their wages since all workers were protected and covered by the Employment Act and Labour Laws.
“The government is also working to ensure that no employee is exploited by his/her employer and that no employee who is infected with the virus will be treated unfairly by his/her employer.
“So far, I have not heard of any reduction in employees’ wages if they are found to be positive,” he said on Monday (May 3)
Those found positive for the virus and admitted to a hospital or Covid-19 quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) could get assistance from MySalam after being discharged, he added.
“Whatever efforts the government makes to provide services such as MySalam for the convenience of all citizens is commendable and should be maintained,” he said.
