LUNDU: Pueh longhouse is a prime example of harmony and tolerance in Sarawak.
Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan hailed the said longhouse as a shining example of unity and tolerance among different ethnic groups in the state.
Despite there being residents who are married to individuals from other ethnic backgrounds, he noted that they come together to celebrate the Gawai Festival.
“The Pueh longhouse serves as a model longhouse, showcasing the harmony and tolerance among its inhabitants who have intermarried with Malays, Chinese and Indians,” said Azizul.
He said this during the Narakng Adat Binua 2023 programme held in conjunction with the Gawai celebration, organised by the Kampung Pueh Kenek and Siru Dayak village development and security committees (JKKK) recently.
Meanwhile, head of Kampung Pueh, Erang Suut, stated that they plan to organise an even more vibrant Gawai celebration next year, aiming to introduce the customs and traditions to the younger generation, ensuring they are not forgotten but carried forward with the participation of young children.
During the event, Azizul also approved the construction of a new futsal field and ‘sepak takraw’ court for the recreational activities of the youth in Kampung Pueh.
The construction is scheduled to commence at the end of this year and will be ready for use early next year.
Additionally, Azizul expressed his gratitude to the people of Kampung Pueh, Siru Dayak and Sebat Dayak for their unwavering support.
He asserted that their support has enabled various development projects to be carried out, including the construction of roads connecting houses, the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (PPRMS) and places of worship.
Also present at the event were the Political Secretary to the Premier, Abang Abdul Aziz Datuk Abang Draup and Penghulu Ramil Mina.
