PULAU BRUIT: The water supply development project in Pulau Bruit has achieved 91.08 per cent physical progress and is expected to be completed by October, according to Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

The Minister of Utility and Telecommunication said the RM84.4 million project, implemented by the Sibu Water Board, aims to resolve water shortages, particularly in the northern areas such as Kampung Penipah, Kampung Tekajung, and Kampung Bruit.

“The contractor is currently conducting testing and commissioning on the completed components of the project, such as the booster pump stations in Serdeng and Saai.

“These will be handed over to the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) for operational purposes.

“This process may involve temporary disruptions and water quality issues, but it is important to identify and correct any leaks,” he said during a working visit to the Water Supply and High-Level Tank Project here yesterday (June 25).

He said with the completion of the infrastructure, JBALB will be able to meet the increasing water needs in Pulau Bruit until 2040, supporting an expected population of up to 16,600.

“We hope the system will provide treated water to Pulau Bruit.

“Apart from the water treatment plant in Tanjung Manis, we also have a source from the water treatment plant in Bayong in Sarikei, where its capacity is being upgraded from 30 million litres per day to 60 million litres per day,” he added.

Also present during the working visit were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) and Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol, MUTS permanent secretary Jafri Lias, and JBALB director Awang Mohamad Fadillah Awang Redzuan.
