TATAU: The Punan Kakus Community Team, led by Joseph Atong, emerged victorious in the 2024 Tatau Festival Decorated Boat competition.

Their boat, themed “Preparing to Welcome the Bungan Festival / Punan Ethnic Rice Harvest Festival,” earned them a well-deserved cash prize of RM5,000.

Bahung Kampung Haji Ismail’s decorated boat, under the leadership of Kampung Haji Ismain tribal chief, Jos Musa @ Saruji and Penghulu Haliza Mudin, secured second place with their theme “Nelayan Melanau Menanga Tetau.” They were awarded RM3,000.

Nanga Tekalit United, led by Tuai Rumah Ulen Segaya, claimed third place with their boat themed “Berani dan Bersatu.” They received a prize of RM1,500.

The prizes were presented by the Tatau District Officer, Jabang Juntan.

Ten teams participated in the competition, held on Friday night, showcasing their creativity and cultural heritage through their boat decorations.

The competition took place at the Batang Anap Cliffs and featured various cultural elements, including traditional customs, clothing, and food.

The event was attended by the non-governmental organisations, and the Tatau-Sebauh District Education Office.

The Tatau District Police Headquarters also participated, symbolising the strong bond between the police and the community.

Thousands of visitors witnessed the beautifully decorated boats and enjoyed the spirit of friendship and community on display.
