PADAWAN: Increasing cases of drug addiction, especially among the young in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency, is worrying its MP Datuk Willie Mongin.
Willie, who is Deputy Minister of Plantation Industry and Commodities, has therefore advised young people to stay away from any form of drug abuse that can destroy their future and affect the reputation of the Puncak Borneo area.
He urged parents to always watch their children’s movements to ensure they do not get involved in drug addiction or any form of drug-related activity.
“We don’t want our children of Puncak Borneo to fall into drug addiction that can destroy their own future, the family institution and society,” he added.
He said this when he officiated at the sixth anniversary celebration of the Padawan 4×4 Adventure Club at Barei Biperoh in Kampung Emperoh Gerung here last night.
He said the young should instead use their free time for sports and recreational activities.
In his speech, Willie, who is also patron of the Padawan 4X4 Adventure Club urged the community, especially the youth to register as members of the club.
He said, since the club was established, it has been active in four-wheel drive motor sports and charity activities.
“I am quite excited about the activities organised by the Padawan 4X4 Adventure Club because apart from their sporting activities, its members also do charity work including helping fire and flood victims as far as Belaga and around the Puncak Borneo Parliament area.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic for two years, its members also helped us distribute food aid to affected families around the area,” he said.
At the event, he also announced the construction of a track for four-wheel drive vehicle racing activities in Skunduk, Kampung Semadang here.
Padawan 4X4 Adventure Club president Mecelinus Meran meanwhile said the club is planning to hold several activities this year and the next.
