KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan yesterday launched the Pusaka Day Care Centre at Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation’s (STIDC) “Majlis Ramah Tamah Gawai Raya Pusaka 2019”.
It is the first childcare centre registered by the Sarawak Welfare Department on February 28, 2019 and is run by the Koperasi Pusaka Sarawak Berhad (KoPUSAKA).
It has two caretakers certified by the Social Welfare Department who have had working experience as a caregiver and kindergarten teacher.
A total of 30 children with ages ranging from 4 to 12 were registered. Various activities have been conducted since the establishment of the centre such as study tours, telematches and Children’s Day celebrations.
Earlier during the “ramah tamah”, Awang Tengah who is also STIDC board of management chairman, was accompanied by his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud.
Guests were spoilt with choice, with around 17 stalls serving various dishes such as “terung sambal” (brinjal in chilli), “ikan masin masak lemak” (salted fish in coconut gravy), “sambal asam”, fried noodles, “dadih” (jelly), “umai” (sliced raw fish) and fresh fruits.
Also present were Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh; and STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet and deputy general manager Dayang Nena Abang Bruce.
The event which took place at Wisma Sumber Alam started as early as 9am and witnessed unending visits from the general public until 1pm.
Members of the public were also entertained with music and dance performances as well as a prize presentation by Awang Tengah for “The Most Beautiful Stall” and “The Most Beautiful Outfit”.
