KUCHING: The Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) aims to facilitate digitalisation of the local community via the People Access Network for Digital Empowerment and Inclusivity (PANDei) programme.

Pustaka chairman, Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo said the PANDei programme is in line with the Sarawak government’s digital economy initiatives for the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He said Pustaka was collaborating with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to offer an online learning course that promotes digital inclusivity awareness and skills among Sarawakians.

“The development of eLearning courses on the PANDei modules can be accessed for free and is open to all.

“The module equips local communities with basic digital skills for example, on how to use digital devices, to help them in their daily activities.

“This will enable them to find information online, perform online transactions or electronic payments and even use government-initiated digital services such as Sarawak Pay and the Sarawak Government mobile applications,” Hamid said during a media appreciation event.

In April last year, the state library had also been entrusted by the Premier, to lead an awareness and advocacy initiatives of the Sarawak government in fostering sustainable development.

The implementation was a collaborative work among all entities such as government and private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community leaders, students, and the public on their respective responsibilities toward attaining sustainable development goals.

“There have been more than 30 initiatives conducted since last year such as the Bicara Sarawak Lestari, information sharing, training, exhibitions, and campaigns in the physical and virtual format.”

He announced that the state library was also collaborating with Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd to provide hydrogen bus services to Pustaka on Saturday and Sunday starting the second half of this year.
