KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here has handed down an eight-month prison sentence to a 34-year-old man, for his involvement in a menacing incident where he threatened to kill his father using a meat cleaver.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence after Zamuddi Mospen pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

The charges against Zamuddi alleged that he deliberately issued death threats to his 55-year-old father, employing a sharp weapon as a means to carry out the threat.

The incident happened at their residence in Kampung Jawa around 8 pm on July 31.

According to the facts of the case, Zamuddi went on a rampage with a machete, causing a commotion outside the house, which left the neighbours in a state of fear.

Concerned for their safety, Zamuddi’s family promptly lodged a police report, leading to his arrest the following day.

Investigations found that Zamuddi had consumed drugs prior to his violent outburst, during which he menacingly confronted his father and siblings, brandishing a meat cleaver.
