KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) views that Sarawak should be placed under total lockdown with the only exception of allowing people to buy food and other necessities in order to stop the Covid-19 spread once and for all.
Its president Voon Lee Shan said he was concerned that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) decision which still allows people to enter Sarawak with permit obtained from the police.
“Perhaps a 20-day lockdown with total ban of people coming out from their homes should be imposed, except for buying food and necessities,” he said on Tuesday (Jan 12).
He said there should also be a total ban for those entering Sarawak including from overseas in order to curb the spread of the virus.
“SDMC should know that the cause of Covid-19 pandemic in Sarawak came from people outside Sarawak, not from within,” he said.
Voon said in combating the virus, Sarawak should learn from Wuhan in China.
“There could not be a half-hearted fight against this pandemic. Wuhan was placed under a strict lockdown that lasted for about 76 days, and even public transport was suspended,” he said.
Voon said there must be strict discipline for all citizens to fight this virus.
He therefore said to combat this deadly virus an immediate lockdown should be imposed in Sarawak, with the exception of getting food and necessities.
“No one should be allowed to dine in shops and there should be total close down of business for the time being. This may be painful but we all must cooperate and endure it.
“We were nearly successful in this fight but relaxation on how we fought against this Covid-19 had in the last three to four months become the cause of sudden surge of this virus again,” said the PBK chief.
