KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has warned Sarawakians that Putrajaya does not give two hoots about Sarawak.
He expressed concern that the state’s solidarity, harmony and tolerance would be in jeopardy if Pakatan Harapan (PH) was given rein of the state.
“If it is true that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said MPKKP was an instrument to conquer Sarawak, then it becomes very obvious that the PH leader is not here with good intentions.
“We have been in politics for years, longer than the existence of the Federation of Malaysia itself, and one thing we always strive to keep and preserve close to our chest is racial harmony and religious tolerance,” Wan Junaidi said.
He opined that Sarawak wanted to preserve this model for its own posterity and that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders’ affinity for the state transcended politics, power and greed.
“We want to leave the legacy of peace and harmony, as an example for others to follow,” he added.
The veteran PBB leader compared Guan Eng’s intended domination of the East Malaysian state to the colonisation of Sarawak by its colonial masters — the Brookes and the British.
“The policy of domination is coming back with the divide and rule politics, it is worse than the Brookes and the British, they are using the rakyat’s money to support their agenda to conquer Sarawak,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Wan Junaidi maintained that the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) was an intrusion into Sarawak’s internal affairs.
“The exploitation and the indoctrination to manipulate the people’s mind through ‘bribery’, intimidation and solicitation are going to impact politics and social order with an ultimate aim to break the communities and people’s solidarity.
“They have no love for Sarawak and its people. Nor has this mechanisation ever cared about the long-term impact of their action on Sarawak and its people. What they want is to conquer and to control Sarawak,” he said.
The former Federal Natural Resources and Environment Minister said Sarawak’s vast resources — oil and gas, forests and lands — were coveted by many.
“Who is not interested to conquer and control (us)? If you assume control of Sarawak then one is controlling Petronas and all its wealth,” he added.
Wan Junaidi cautioned that if PH were in control of the state, Sarawakians should kiss their rights goodbye.
“You can say goodbye to the promises under MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963), the funding provisions of the Constitution and others due to Sarawak, even all the devolutions of authority that have been agreed upon may be aborted, especially those that involved financial commitment.
“Just look at the way the Finance Ministry and economic agendas are being managed at federal level.
“Instead of a new paradise the people dreamt of prior to GE14, now the PH administration has given us bigger debts, loss of assets, uncertainty, and misery. Are we Sarawakians prepared to face that in Sarawak?” he asked.
