KUCHING: A forensic team from Putrajaya  and the canine detection unit or K9 of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) are helping to investigate the blast which rocked CityOne Megamall here at 3.30pm on Tuesday.

“Today, we bring our tracking dog to ensure that there is no criminal or militant element besides a leak in the gas piping,” Bomba director Khirudin Drahman told a press conference at CityOne Megamall here yesterday.

“The gas samples have been taken at the scene and we will examine them in the laboratory to identify the source of the blast,” he said.

According to him, the victims’ injuries tally with the explosion pattern and the CCTV footage.

“The finding of the K9 team also tallies with our hypothesis and we are going to compile all the evidence,” he said, adding that the forensic team from Putrajaya came at 4pm yesterday to clarify the finding.

Khirudin said the K9 team was also deployed to ensure that no more victims were left buried under the rubble at the scene.

Khirudin also said that viral message saying there was a crack on the wall of the mall’s upper floor after Tuesday’s gas explosion was  false.

Meanwhile, State Department of Occupational Safety and Health director Dr Nor Halim Hasan revealed the agency would investigate whether the workspace safety rules and regulations were adhered to at the site.
