KUCHING: Putrajaya’s decision to form the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Sarawak shows it may be thinking of taking over Sarawak, said Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He added that if the federal government was going ahead with the MPKK, Sarawakians could no longer believe in its words of wanting to give Sarawak the rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Federal Constitution.

“Any Sarawak leader who allows the formation of MPKK in Sarawak is betraying Sarawak’s limited autonomous administration of her internal matters. It is tantamount to selling the Sarawak autonomy by bit and pieces.

“We have had — for 56 years since August, 1963 — absolute control of our internal affairs without Kuala Lumpur’s interference.

“The presence of MPKK is not only dividing the people at the villages or longhouses but is a serious encroachment of Sarawak’s rights and autonomy.

“There are nearly 6,000 longhouses, villages and community settlements in Sarawak today living in peace and harmony. Are we going to disrupt this peace and stability for a selfish political gain?” he asked.

Wan Junaidi added, “Already the Communications and Multimedia Ministry is going to form Komuniti Harapan Malaysia (KHM) which will have nearly 1,500 branches in Sarawak to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the federal government to replace Jasa (Special Affairs Department).

“Now it wants to form MPKK to go deeper into the communities in Sarawak. The end result will be the division and separation of rural and suburban community.

“The Malaya brand of politics to dominate by breaking the society into smaller parts and divisions already exist in Malaya. Enough is enough. Please don’t do it in Sarawak, the last bastion of unity in the country,” said Wan Junaidi.
