SIMUNJAN: A local man got the shock of his life when he discovered an 8.2-foot-long python coiled up in a chicken coop at Kampung Kanchong Jaya today (Dec 19).

Fearing for his family’s safety, the 48-year-old quickly alerted the Civil Defence Force (APM) for assistance in capturing the reptile behind his house.

APM Simunjan district officer Lt Mohammad Elyas Abdul Rhanie said a three-man team was dispatched to the scene, about 25km away, after receiving a distress call at 8.05 am.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed that the python was still curled up in the coop, having just enjoyed a chicken for breakfast.

The reptile, weighing 12kg, was successfully captured using snake-catching equipment.

The python was later placed in a bag and taken back to the APM office for further action.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation concluded at 8.40 am.
