KANOWIT: Quick action by members of the public helped contain fire at a bus station store room in Pekan Kanowit today (May 11).
According to reports, the fire and rescue department (Bomba) received a distress call at 12.55 pm about the incident, leading to a rapid deployment of a team to the scene.
The fire began in a garbage dump inside the room.
“However, before the fire team could arrive, members of the public took swift action, using two Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers to contain the blaze,” said Bomba in a statement.
Upon their arrival, firefighters quickly deployed a 100-foot hose line equipped with a nozzle from the fire engine tank to perform overhaul operations.
“The team managed to extinguish the fire completely, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area,” it added.
The operation concluded at 1.10 pm, with six personnel and one Fire Rescue Tender from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Station involved.
