KUCHING: Swift action by members of the public prevented a rental room on the third floor of a shophouse unit from being destroyed by fire last night (May 28).
The incident happened around 8.30 pm at Block F of Taman Sri Sarawak along Jalan Borneo here.
Realising the blaze, members of the public quickly rushed to help douse the fire using a hose reel.
No injuries or casualties were reported as all the nine tenants managed to escape to safety.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Padungan and Batu Lintang stations were despatched to the scene.
The flames had already been extinguished through the efforts of the public by the time the firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
