KUCHING: The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) has adopted the Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) system to ensure uninterrupted supply of fish and other marine products during the monsoon season.
Its director-general Jamaludin Othman said the system would ensure sufficient supply of fresh frozen fish to meet demand.
“We have implemented this method in two places in Malaysia, namely Kedah and Pesut. LKIM has proposed this project to the National Cost of Living Committee which is chaired by the Prime Minister to be extended to other states,” he said here yesterday.
He added that with the IQF method, LKIM brand Q-Fish would be able to reduce the cost of living of consumers.
“This method ensures that during the monsoon season, when fishermen are unable to go to sea to catch fish, IQF would be a part of the solution.
“It is because fishes can be stockpiled beforehand without getting spoiled. This can help to maintain the prices of fish during the monsoon season,” he explained.
