KUCHING: Quick thinking by the public saved a car from being razed in a fire at Jalan Kampung Haji Baki this morning.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the driver managed to get out to safety in the 8.55 am incident.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Batu Lintang station were deployed to the scene following a distress call.
However, by the time they arrived, the flames that had damaged the engine bay had already been extinguished by the quick intervention of passers-by.
Four dry powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers were used to put out the fire.
The team took over the scene and conducted overhaul works to ensure that the fire was not reignited.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
