KUCHING: Swift actions by residents of Kampung Sungai Berlian averted potential disaster as they managed to prevent a major house fire this morning (Nov 17).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Petra Jaya station were deployed to the scene, about 32km away, after receiving an emergency call at 5.58am.

Upon their arrival, the residents had already extinguished the flames using three fire extinguishers and pipe water.

The team only monitored and made sure that the fire was fully extinguished.

No injuries or casualties were reported as the family of six evacuated to safety.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 6.56am.
