MIRI: Quick action by vigilant neighbours on Sunday evening (Sept 1) averted what could have been a devastating fire in Senadin here.
The incident occurred at Jalan Pulasan when residents spotted flames emerging from a collection of used electrical items in the yard of a nearby house.
The neighbours immediately alerted the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), preventing the situation from escalating.
The Lutong Bomba received the distress call at 7.44pm and promptly dispatched a team to the scene.
According to Lutong Bomba chief Henry Jugah, the fire appeared to have started in one of the electrical items undergoing repairs outside the house.
Inside the home at the time were two young children, aged six and 10, along with their father.
The father, startled by the frantic shouts of his neighbours, quickly realised the danger when he saw the fire outside his house.
Fortunately, the fire was contained before it could spread to the residential structure, thanks to the timely intervention of Bomba.
“The fire did not involve any residential structures,” Henry confirmed, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The firefighting operation concluded at 8.10pm.
