KUCHING: The prompt actions of employees at a food stall in Plaza Merdeka shopping mall successfully extinguished a fire that broke out in the stall’s kitchen on yesterday (June 5).
According to a spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters from the Padungan station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at around 11.02am.
Upon arrival, the firefighters confirmed that a fire had indeed erupted in the kitchen on the mall’s third level.
Fortunately, the employees, aided by the building’s sprinkler system, managed to swiftly put out the flames using three fire extinguishers.
As a result, no formal extinguishing operation was required. The team monitored the situation, ensuring there was no reignition, and assisted in closing the sprinkler valve.
After confirming the safety of the premises, the team concluded their operation and returned to their station.
Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses incurred are currently under investigation.
