KUCHING: Twenty three people comprising nine boys below 12 years old, nine girls below 12 years old and five adults took part in “Tilawah Al-Quran” (Quran recital competition) which ended at the old State Legislative Assembly building here yesterday.
Organised by the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) in collaboration with the Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports (MTACYS) Ministry’s club, the event aimed to nurture and foster the culture of reading the Al-Quran at a young age,
It was also a platform to search for new Al-Quran readers in the state.
Tourism, Culture, Arts,Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah congratulated SAC for successfully organising the event.
“The messages and meanings of the Al-Quran verses are the gist of the competition to be delivered to the people.
“It is our responsibility to ensure our children have good religious knowledge. Therefore, it is better if SAC has Al-Quran recital classes,” he added.
The competition was judged by the judges from Kuching Division Qari and Qariah Association and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.
There was also a lucky draw at the event.
SAC currently has more than 80 officers and staff focusing on art, cultures, talents and orientation.
