KUCHING: The Sarawak-level Al-Quran Tilawah (recital) and Hafazan (memorisation) competition, themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’, is set to take place from March 6 to 9 at Dewan Suarah Limbang.
In a press conference at Wisma Sumber Alam yesterday (March 3), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the competition aims to deepen Muslims’ affinity for the Al-Quran and foster high-calibre Qari (male reciters) and Qariah (female reciters) through healthy competition.
It also seeks to bolster dakwah (Islamic preaching) efforts and exemplify virtuous deeds and noble characteristics.
This year, the Tilawah category will see 21 participants, while the Hafazan category will host 24.
The opening ceremony will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on March 6, with the closing and prize distribution ceremony graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Abang Johari on March 9.
Prizes include RM10,000, a challenge cup, trophy, gift, certificate, and an Umrah trip for the Tilawah winner. Hafazan winners for 1 to 10 Juzuk, 1 to 20 Juzuk, and 1 to 30 Juzuk categories will receive RM3,000, RM4,000, and RM5,000, respectively.
Additionally, the event will feature an Al-Quran quiz and exhibition, enriching the spiritual experience for attendees from March 6 to 9.
Pre-event activities commence on March 4 with a Tahsin Qiraat Al-Quran course at Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia (ILIM), Lawas, followed by an Al-Quran Seminar and Ziarah Imarah Masjid/Surau Malaysia Madani on March 5 at various locations in Limbang.
He also highlighted the Limbang Arbor Day programme, a thousand tree planting initiative, and a cooking demonstration by Chef Muluk on March 8, encouraging local participation and engagement in these vibrant activities.
“With such a comprehensive lineup, I urge everyone, especially Limbang residents, to partake and enliven these forthcoming events,” he added.
